A communal celebration
A truly breathtaking image that illuminated the sky over Karlsruhe for two nights. Followed by a two-day program on four stages in the city centre presenting various short formats about key figures of Karlsruhe’s history.
And finally, the stunning opening show in front of the Karlsruhe castle. A cast of over 180 participants, spectacular fireworks and no less than 2100 m² of mind blowing video projections on the façade of the castle.
This delicate balance of historic content and technology made this performance an unforgettable experience for over 40.000 spectators.

Battle Royal Studios supported renowned Director Nigel Jamieson to create an impressive opening to the European Capital of Culture in Denmark. Filled with striking light installations and dazzling live music, the procession and culminating show were a nod to the past, an embrace of the future, and a celebration of the present, engaging citizens of the region who stepped in to bring the ceremony to life.
The challenging circumstances of the first Covid-19 lockdown offered Battle Royal Studios the opportunity to develop a novel hybrid format for the Esch2022 REMIX Opening, unique in its scope and interactivity for the traditional opening ceremony of a European Capital of Culture. With a wide range of immersive live entertainment, Battle Royal Studios took the audience to the moon and back.
For the first time in history, the FIS Alpine Ski-World Championship 2011 opened with a Grand Ceremony at the famous Olympic Winter Games site in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Merging local tradition and the latest technologies, Battle Royal Studios created an experience that wow’d both spectators and media.
